Things to Do in Abu Dhabi on a Sunday: A Local Plan From Morning to Night

Since the UAE moved to a Saturday and Sunday weekend, Sunday has become a proper day off for most people in the capital. That raises a pleasant question every week: what should you actually do with it? At Rent Yachts Abu Dhabi we spend our Sundays on the water, so we have strong opinions. Below is the plan we suggest to friends who ask us, from a slow morning to an afternoon at sea and an easy evening in town.

Why Sunday Deserves a Real Plan

Saturday tends to fill itself with errands, family visits and catching up on sleep. Sunday is different. It is the last free day before the working week, and how you spend it shapes how you feel on Monday morning. A Sunday that includes fresh air, good food and a bit of company leaves you rested. A Sunday spent scrolling at home rarely does. The good news is that Abu Dhabi makes an active Sunday easy, because the city, the coast and the islands are all close together.

    Sunday Morning: Start Slow

    Breakfast Somewhere With a View

The capital has no shortage of cafes along the waterfront and in its neighbourhoods. A late breakfast with friends is a calm way to open the day, and it means you will not need a heavy lunch before heading out later.

A Walk or Ride Along the Corniche

If the weather is mild, the Corniche is a classic morning choice. Walking, jogging or cycling along the promenade gives you sea views and a bit of movement before the heat of midday. In the warmer months, go early and keep it short.

    Culture Indoors

On hotter days, the city’s museums, galleries and cultural spaces are a cool way to spend a couple of hours. They also give you something interesting to talk about once you are on deck in the afternoon.

Sunday Afternoon: Head Out to Sea

This is the part of the day we know inside out. Every Sunday we run a sharing yacht trip to Dolphin Island, and it fits neatly between a slow morning and an easy evening. Here is what the afternoon looks like.

    • You board at 1:00 PM and sail out across the capital’s waters
    • Music runs from the moment we leave the shore
    • Light bites and cold soft drinks are waiting, with water and ice to spare
    • Mid-afternoon, we pause at Dolphin Island
    • The buffet comes out before the return leg
    • You are back on land at 6:00 PM, with the evening still ahead

Each seat costs AED 250, and that one price takes care of eating, drinking and the soundtrack, so there is nothing else to budget for unless you want the optional jet ski, which is AED 400 for 30 minutes. You book on WhatsApp, and we send you the departure point once your ticket is reserved.

Why a Shared Trip Works on Sundays

Sunday plans with a big group of friends are hard to coordinate. Someone always has a family lunch or an early start on Monday. A shared trip removes that problem: you can come alone, as a couple or with whoever is free, and you still get a full yacht afternoon with a lively crowd. Because the trip sails when the group is complete, booking a few days in advance is a good habit, and we will message you as soon as your date is locked in.

If You Want the Boat to Yourselves

Some Sundays call for a private occasion, such as a family gathering or a birthday. In that case, a private charter gives you the whole yacht for your own group, and our team can talk you through the options.

    Sunday Evening: Wind Down

Being back on land at six leaves plenty of room for the rest of the day. A few ideas that work well after an afternoon at sea:

    • Dinner with the people you met on board, if the conversation is still going
    • A sunset walk along the waterfront to stretch your legs
    • A quiet evening at home to rest before the week starts
    • Coffee or dessert in one of the city’s evening spots

You will probably find that an afternoon on the water leaves you pleasantly tired, so an early night is not a bad idea either.

Local Tips for a Smooth Sunday

    • Check the season: from late autumn to spring, outdoor plans are comfortable for most of the day; in summer, keep outdoor activity to the morning, evening or the water
    • Carry sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat whenever you head outside
    • Plan your transport so you reach the departure point with a few minutes to spare
    • Keep the evening light so you are fresh for Monday
    • Book activities that sell out, like the yacht trip, earlier in the week
